FAQs

What is a Self Fly Club?
The Self Fly Club is a membership-based club for licensed pilots.

Once you have joined and completed a short checkout flight, you can book and fly club aircraft.
Do I need a checkout flight before flying club aircraft?
Yes. You will complete a short checkout flight with an instructor. It helps you become familiar with aircraft and local procedures. Usually 30-60 minutes.
Can I take passengers when flying club aircraft?
Yes, as long as you meet CAA required currency rules of 3 landings in 90 days to carry passengers.
Can I fly to other airfields?
Yes. Members can use club aircraft for cross-country flying and visiting other UK airfields.

Your Compton Self Fly Club membership includes landing fees at both CFT bases; Enstone and Compton Abbas airfields. If you visit other airfields you will need to pay the airfield a landing fee.
What are your recency requirements?
Our club recency requirements follow the CAA rules of 3 takeoffs & landings within 90 days in order to carry passengers.

For solo flights, where gaps in personal flying exist over 90 days we also suggest a flight with an instructor.
